Only working journalists can register to use the PR Newswire for Journalists site. The site allows journalists to set up profiles to receive targeted, relevant news and information. News releases are viewed on the site or via e-mail delivery from the site an average of more than 900,000 times per month.

"The statistics are an overwhelming testament to the success of this effort," said Sam Starnes, director of media relations for PR Newswire. "We set out to provide our clients with a more targeted means of reaching the reporters that specifically cover their company, industry and competitors. There is nothing else like this in the industry today."

The site contains every news release issued by PR Newswire's more than 40,000 members. PR Newswire for Journalists provides access to real-time corporate news organized into market specific and geographic sectors/beats, groups and topics; multimedia content including video, audio and multimedia news releases, b-roll footage, photos and logos; access to subject experts through ProfNet and a Directory of Contacts. Journalists can sign up to receive targeted news by choosing from 59 industries, 41 subject codes and 170 geographies or by adding company names, keywords or phrases to their profiles.

Journalists register once and have automatic access to all journalist services with each site visit. By setting up a personal profile each journalist selects the type of news they want to receive based on industry, subject, company name, ticker symbol, geographic relevance, language, keyword and media type -- text, audio, video, pictures -- and the preferred email delivery format -- in batch or real-time.

PR Newswire for Journalists launched in March 2002 as a result of the combination of PR Newswire's Press Room and NEWSdesk sites. The new site offered many new services such as enhanced global search, and for the first time, personalization options. In July 2002, PR Newswire launched the site in French, German and Spanish, providing more targeted distribution to global journalists. In addition, new online client usage reporting, ProfNet accessibility, new Email capabilities and better access to trade show information were added. In the latest version deployed in August 2002, improvements to PR Newswire for Journalists included updated news and archive searches, a new headline list display and Photo Flash enhancements. Today, PR Newswire for Journalists counts journalists from over 140 countries and in 17 different languages as members of this site.
