PR Newswire today announced significant upgrades to its MediaRoom service, one year since its launch.

The new features of MediaRoom include a CEO message section, high-resolution image and video galleries, podcasts in the Multimedia Section, an expert's section, and a 10-pack of news release content bins (each available with its own RSS feed), enabling the categorization of news releases by subject, such as product, personnel, and corporate. Enhancements have also been made to MediaRoom's already easy-to-use interface, with features such as a preview function and site traffic monitoring that is directly accessible from the Site Manager, the password-protected, customer-facing update tool.

"It is clear from our success in our first year that MediaRoom is fulfilling an important need in the communications industry," said Dave Armon, chief operating officer, PR Newswire. "We have customers in industries ranging from consumer goods to medical, food and volunteer services all relying on MediaRoom to create strategic product launches, manage crisis communications and build better relationships with their key audiences."

Commenting on PR Newswire's MediaRoom service, PR manager for Varian Medical Systems Meryl Ginsberg said, "When I was introduced to PR Newswire's MediaRoom, I saw exactly what I wanted. I saw architecture that was already there. I saw something that was going to be easily populated by me in real-time. I just saw the shortest distance between two points, and right around the quagmire that was facing us if we had tried to go through the existing resources that were here within our company. The MediaRoom has been a tremendous communications tool for us, not just for journalists, but for a whole variety of audiences."

PR Newswire has also launched a new version of MediaRoom geared toward the non-profit sector. This version offers tools which cater to a non-profit's specific needs, such as a password-protected extranet for members-only; registration tools designed to boost an organization's membership rank; a donation tool integrated with an online merchant account; and, additional dark pages for use in crisis communication or for other specific non-profit communication needs.

"Non-profits have unique needs. Often their communication programs revolve around raising money or awareness of a particular issue. The new version of MediaRoom is expected to assist significantly in managing many of the tactics used by non-profit communicators," concluded Armon.

MediaRoom is a strategic public relations tool that assists communications professionals in managing their online media relations. Through a password-protected interface, MediaRoom users have full control over the posting and editing of content, which can include corporate background materials; high-resolution images; fact sheets; executive bios; downloadable press kit documents; key press clips; and opt-in mailing lists. Customers of PR Newswire can even have their news releases automatically posted to the site's News Release section, as soon as they are distributed over any of PR Newswire's newslines.

In addition, PR Newswire offers its customers the ability to create MediaRooms in any of the European, Latin American and Asian languages. Many have already started to take advantage of this functionality to communicate with their diverse audiences.

To date, among the many users of MediaRoom are such notable companies as Cingular Wireless, Lowe's Companies, Time Warner Cable, Tupperware, Epson America, OfficeMax and Varian Medical Systems.
