NRA's Wayne LaPierre to Discuss His Strategies for Bypassing the 'Elite Media' This Week on KRLA's 'Newsroom Confidential'

Wayne LaPierre, CEO of the National Rifle Association, says his latest book -- The Global War On Your Guns -- aims to speak directly to the American public without having to pass through the "filter" of what he describes as America's "elite media."

LaPierre explains one of his chief reasons for writing the book in an exclusive interview with NewsTalk KRLA 870's Newsroom Confidential, a one-hour weekly radio program that provides an insiders' guide to journalism and public relations. The program airs live Sunday nights in Southern California and is simulcast on the Internet. It can also be heard throughout the week as a digital rebroadcast at http://www.newsroomconfidential.com/.

In a taped interview, scheduled for broadcast on June 25th, LaPierre tells Newsroom Confidential that the mainstream news media are not doing an adequate job of covering the United Nations and in particular its efforts to curb Second Amendment rights.

LaPierre also takes issue with what he describes as the "agenda journalism" of national news outlets, noting that in his view average Americans are increasingly fighting back against biased news reporting.

"LaPierre is an astute observer of the news media and he knows, probably as much as anyone, how to harness the enormous power of the media to get his message out," notes Dean Rotbart, host and executive producer of Newsroom Confidential. "Whether you like LaPierre's message or detest it, you have to credit him as a master PR strategist," Rotbart says.

A sound clip of LaPierre discussing the media can be heard in advance of Sunday's show by going to the Newsroom Confidential (http://www.newsroomconfidential.com/) web site and clicking on the photo of LaPierre.

Now available at the same web location is Rotbart's full interview, conducted live last Sunday, with David Schlesinger, London-based global managing editor of Reuters. Among other topics, Schlesinger discusses Reuters' perspectives on global news coverage as well as his encounter with Queen Elizabeth II.

Rotbart is a Pulitzer Prize nominated journalist and founding editor of NewsBios.com, which provides in-depth dossiers on more than 6,000 influential journalists.
