Born in Virginia in 1921 and raised in Maine, Mr. Fulton attended the University of Maine, where he earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering. After serving in the Navy, he continued his education at the University of Washington, graduating with honors in Electrical Engineering.

Mr. Fulton was appointed president of PR Newswire when the company, now a subsidiary of United Business Media, was acquired by Western Union in 1971. He continued as president until 1976, when he was named to head the Western Union Teleprocessing Group based in Mahwah, N.J., while remaining a director of PR Newswire.

In his career at PR Newswire, Mr. Fulton oversaw the acquisition of a joint ownership position in Canada News Wire, now CNW Group, significantly increased PR Newswire's volume of news releases and profits, undertook major technological advances and created the basis of what would become PR Newswire's financial model going forward.

David Steinberg, who succeeded Mr. Fulton at PR Newswire, said, "CK played a major role in transitioning PR Newswire's noisy and anachronistic teleprinter operations to the silent elegance of the digital telecommunications network it now operates globally. More than that, he was a consistent model of professional competence and limitless goodwill."

Mr. Fulton retired to Brunswick, Maine, and then to Sun City with his wife, the late Velma D. Redmond of Snohomish, Wash. He is survived by: four sons -- Bruce, of Seattle and Vancouver; Douglas of Bridgeport, N.Y.; Thomas of White Plains, N.Y., and Scott of Topsham, Maine -- five grandsons and a granddaughter.

At his request, no services will be held. Remembrance contributions may be made to Parkinson's Research, Sun Health Research Institute, Sun City, AZ 86351.
